Please, introduce yourself. Tell us about your personal life, family, education.
My name is Deanie Humphrys-Dunne and I specialize in creating children’s books that share powerful life lessons such as perseverance, setting goals, and helping others.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
I enjoy watching equestrian events on TV, reading, music, singing and spending time with my family.
Voice as a Hobby
Do you have hobbies? How did you get started in them?

I love listening to music and singing. I studied voice for several years when I was a teenager. Every year, I performed in a recital. I’m still close to my voice teacher and her family.
If you are a writer, are you an avid reader?
I read and review as many children’s books as possible.
What is your ultimate writing goal as you see it today?
My objective is to continue writing to inspire and entertain children.

What inspired you to write your first book?
My first book was called Tails of Sweetbrier. It was my personal journey of starting my life as a disabled child and becoming an equestrian champion. That book is no longer in print, but I’ve written a new version with many more details called My Life at Sweetbrier—A Life Changed by Horses.
How do you decide on the title of a book?
Sometimes I try to find a title that would fit the main character, like Charlie the Horse.

How much of your books is realistic and experiences based on someone you know, or events in your life?
The only book based on my life is My Life at Sweetbrier but most of my books feature horses.
Is there an author, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?
I would have liked to meet Helen Keller. She spent her later years in the town in which I grew up, Easton, Connecticut.
New Author Advice

When you see new authors struggling, what single piece of advice could you give them on a moment’s notice?
